ADDITIONAL SHIHPOO INFO

Shihpoo - a mix between a toy/mini poodle and a purebred Shih Tzu.

Shihpoo (aka Shoodle, Pooshi, and Shihdoodle) are a mix of a mini Poodle (or toy Poodle) and a purebred Shih Tzu. Shihpoo puppies make great companion animals for just about anyone, but a retired senior would most likely be an ideal match. They love to be doted on, pampered, and loved. They are pretty versatile and can thrive in almost any environment–family home, apartment, or tiny house.

SHIHPOO ADVANTAGES

(These advantages are typically the case, but cannot be guaranteed to be true of each individual doodle puppy.)

  1. Healthier due to Shihpoo hybrid vigor

  2. Hypoallergenic Shihpoo Coat (especially true of f1 Shihpoos)

  3. Loving Shihpoo Personality

  4. Shihpoos are normally very family affectionate

  5. Small breed (Shihpoos are one of the very smallest doodle breeds)

SHIHPOO PERSONALITY

Shihpoos will inherit characteristics from both parent breeds.

  • Shih Tzus can be stubborn, but what they lack in trainability, they make up for in personality tenfold. They are incredibly friendly, attentive, and cute, while Poodles are intelligent, trainable, and active.

  • Mini/Toy Poodles are more energetic and outgoing. They are also loving and make great watchdogs. Mini/Toy Poodles are ranked one the healthiest breeds in the world living many times over 16 years of age and also ranked as the 2nd most intelligent dog breed in the world.

Shihpoo personalities are described as friendly and playful. They are the size of your average lap dog, and their moderate energy level means they'd probably enjoy napping in your lap for hours. While Shihpoos enjoy a good siesta, they also enjoy walks and thrive on playtime. They may not be eager to learn new tricks but do enjoy interaction and attention. Shihpoos are not as barky as their Poodle parent but will alert you to any displeasures, such as a missed meal, with a single bark every few minutes until needs are met.

SHIHPOO MAINTENANCE

Maintenance for a Shihpoo will depend on the exact type of coat that the dog has. The Shih Tzu tends to shed more than Poodles, so a Shihpoo will be either low to non-shedding depending on whether it inherited its coat from the Shih Tzu side or the Poodle side. For the most part, Shihpoos will require brushing on a weekly basis in order to ensure the coat remains free from knots and snags. In addition, the toenails of the Shihpoo will need to be filed and their ears kept clean and dry. Several times per year, the coat of the Shihpoo will need to be trimmed. Make sure Shihpoos are kept on a dietary schedule. Do not allow free-feeding as Shihpoos are prone to overeat and rapidly gain weight.

SHIHPOO COLORS

Brown’s Babies Shihpoos' colors vary from litter to litter, with our most common colors being Red, Red/white, Apricot, Cream, Chocolate, Black, Black/white, and Brindle.

We breed F1b, F1, and Multi-generational Shihpoos puppies. Below you will find more information on each type of Shihpoo Browns Babies offers.

  • F1 Shihpoo: First Generation (F1) Shihpoos are the result of crossing a purebred Shih Tzu with a purebred mini Poodle or toy Poodle. These F1 Shihpoo are 50% Shih Tzu and 50% Poodle.

  • F1B Shihpoo: First Generation Backcross (F1b) Shihpoo take a First Generation (F1) Shihpoo (mentioned above) and cross it back to a mini Poodle or Toy Poodle. F1b litters are primarily for those with severe allergies, who want to be sure that their Shihpoo puppy has a non-shedding poodle coat. F1b Shihpoos are 25% Shih Tzu and 75% Poodle.
